The 2020 Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Championship Mexico was a great success. Please follow this page and check back often for the dates (as the pandemic allows us to establish), locations, and details for the Mexico Backyard Ultra Championship 2021-2022 SERIES events and ‘Golden Ticket’ details.


SERIE DE CAMPEONATO

A series of “Golden Ticket” Backyard events throughout Mexico that allows endurance athletes to compete in this unique format where mental strength is as equally important as physical endurance (please see format details and rules below). The events will place the best of Mexico’s long distance runners against one another to see who is the last person standing and who will win a Golden Ticket to represent Team Mexico in Chihuahua at the Mexico Backyard Ultra World Championships (October 2022)- an event that will feature the 15 Best Athletes from 50 countries throughout the planet to determine which country and which individual athletes are the greatest in the World!




THE BACKYARD FORMAT AND RULES (all series events)

Course

        Loop style or out and back

        Must be 4 miles 880 feet in length

        Metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers

Starting Corral

        Measured to fit entire starting field

        Corral stays the same size thru out the event

        Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell

Starts

        Each loop starts precisely 1 hour after the last

        Warning must be given 3, 2, and 1 minutes prior to start

        All competitors must start at the bell (no late starts, they must be in the corral)

Loops

        Except for restrooms, competitor may not leave the course until each loop is completed

        No non-competitors on the course (including eliminated runners)

        No personal aid during a loop (common aid stations are allowed)

        Each loop must be completed within an hour to be counted… including the final lap.

        No artificial aids (including trekking poles)

        Slower runners must allow passes.

Timing

        Timing of the loops is optional

Winner/Results

        The winner is the last person to complete a loop

        All others are technically DNF

        Results of each runner in terms of distance covered are to be given.

        If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.

Cap

        Race must be open ended - there is no set end time.

Event Management and support

Big Dogs Backyard World Championship Mexico is presented by Copper Canyons Endurance Runs with support from and in conjunction with the State of Chihuahua Mexico and the Municipality of Urique, Chihuahua. The event is sponsored by True Messages a US based 501c3 nonprofit that facilities projects that supports the peoples and lands of the Sierra Tarahumara.

The Mexico Backyard Ultra ‘Serie de Campeonato is organized by Copper Canyons Endurance Runs and Frogs Trail Mexico and includes individual events in locations throughout Mexico presented and organized by independent Endurance Running event companies.

THE BIG DOGS MEXICO BACKYARD ULTRA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

  • a Team Mexico invitation only Event. Comprised of 15 athletes that includes the winners of the Serie de Campeonato events winners and a few of Mexico’s other top endurance runners

Team Mexico competes against the best of the best from 50 other countries in this event like no other. Follow along with our social media and other partner channels to learn more. This event will be live broadcast throughout the planet and is destined to becomes one of the greatest endurance athlete worldwide events ever conducted.

BACKYARD ULTRA 2020

Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Championship 2020 will represent the greatest ‘last person standing’ competition the world has ever seen.  Twenty-two nation countries each bringing 15 of their best endurance athletes together for one worldwide competition. Every runner will start – only one will finish! The World Champion will truly be the last person standing on Earth!

The Mexico event for the Big Dog’s Backyard World Championship is an invitation only event.  Only the best endurance runners throughout the country will be considered for entry (*those interested should apply directly to the event management team).  The event has already secured some of the most legendary endurance athletes in all of Mexico. Please follow along for updates as we release individual runner information.

All races in each country will begin at 7:00 AM Tennessee USA time (6:00 AM Chihuahua Mexico). The first annual Big Dogs Backyard World Championship Mexico will take place at the Parque de Adventura, Barrancas del Cobre, in Chihuahua Mexico  . The event will be live streamed with results to a international platform that will aggregate all participating countries feeds into one live digital broadcast for worldwide viewing. The Mexico event will also have several additional broadcast and social media platforms where viewers can follow along with the runners as the hours and kilometers mount and the competition intensifies.

       Winner Overall World Championship

  • The overall World Champion is the person who is the last surviving runner of the last race still running (each individual race is over as soon as there is only one runner and they are the winner only for that country event)

  • The overall World Champion will truly be the last person on Earth standing.  The final 12 runners with the highest total miles will comprise the All World Team.
